Send us your best ideas for the 2022 Sitka Health Summit projects, and pre-register for Planning Day

Since the first Sitka Health Summit Planning Fay took place in 2007, Sitkans have used the forum to select a variety of year-long community wellness projects designed to make Sitka a healthier place to live.
This year, Sitka residents will have a chance to come together for the 14th Sitka Health Summit Planning Day, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, in Room 229 at the University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus. There, Sitka residents will choose two wellness projects for the community to pursue in 2022-23. The top two projects will each receive $2,000 in seed money, plus facilitation services, to get started.
Some of the past Sitka Health Summit projects include becoming the first in the state to earn Bicycle Friendly Community and Walk Friendly Communities designations, creating the Sitka Farmers Market, building the ADA-accessible Sitka Community Playground, building The Cloud teen center, starting the Sitka Kitch community rental commercial kitchen, starting the Fish to Schools program, supporting the Hames Athletic and Wellness Center, creating the Choose Respect mural at Blatchley Middle School, and more. In 2021, our two projects were building a tiny house community to help reduce homelessness in Sitka and starting the community recreation initiative that rekindles the community schools program.
Residents of all ages are encouraged to provide answers in three sentences or less, to the question ”What inspiring health initiative deserves Sitka's attention in the next 365 days?” Please submit your entries by noon on Friday, Sept. 9.
