It's time to RSVP for the 10th annual Sitka Health Summit on Oct. 21

You are cordially invited to the 10th annual Sitka Health Summit, which takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, in Room 229 at the University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus. We're hoping this is our biggest summit yet.

The purpose for the day is to fairly select two inspiring community health initiatives to focus on in the next year. The new goals get $2,000 in start-up funds and the credibility that comes from being democratically selected at an open meeting.

The Sitka Health Summit planning day is open to all Sitka residents who want to improve the health and wellness of our fair town. This year, we're encouraging people to submit ideas before the summit, answering the question, “What inspiring wellness initiative deserves Sitka’s attention in the next 365 days?" Please use the form at this link to submit your ideas so they can be considered at the summit.

So what makes a good Sitka Health Summit project? Some of our past community wellness initiatives include Sitka becoming a Bicycle Friendly Community, the start of a local foods market (the Sitka Farmers Market), expanding community gardens and trying to get a community greenhouse in Sitka, supporting the creation of the Hames Athletic and Wellness Center, the Fish to Schools program, the Revitalize Sitka project, the Celebrate Katlian Street project, the Sitka Kitch community rental commercial kitchen, and a variety of other projects.

The Sitka Health Summit planning day is a great networking opportunity, and we will have a delicious, complimentary lunch for all of our planning day participants.

To RSVP, please email Zack Desmond of Brave Heart Volunteers at zachary@braveheartvolunteers.org and/or Doug Osborne of Sitka Community Hospital at dosborne@sitkahospital.org. In your email, please include your name, email address, phone number, organization (you can list self if you're not representing an organization), and any food restrictions.

For more information about the Sitka Health Summit, please contact Doug Osborne at 747-0373 or Zack Desmond at 747-4600.
